Thank You Coronavirus Helpers

Back in December of 2019, the world unknowingly was smacked into another stratosphere. Unbeknown to many, the spread of a highly contagious lethal virus was taking place amongst social gatherings, parties, schools, churches, and every public space available. As populations traveled through time performing their day to day motions, and tasks, this evil virus was lurking in the darkness. Hiding among us, the Coronavirus (or covid19) was planting the seeds of its spread. It fangs in full sight, glimmering in the light, sharp and bright, ready to bite.

Nobody really knew the depths of the coronavirus, or just how detrimental it would be on the global population, the global economy, and the global health sector. If you had polled several people back in the late stages of 2019, or the early months of 2020, and you asked them, “how do you think coronavirus will affect us?” I bet very few people would have answered close to the reality of the situation. Fast forward a year and ew months now, Covid-19 has left its imprint on humanity. It has wrecked through world economies and left all sorts of debris in its trail. It has shattered several health sectors the world over. It has disrupted the global trade routes and logistics chain. It has psychologically modified how we humans approach and handle hygiene and health. It’s rendered something obsolete, like office space and movie theaters, and heightened the importance of other things, like hand sanitizers and face masks. Coronavirus has even managed to create a magnetic deterrence between two or people, as they fear that too close of a social distance might spell doom.

That is how coronavirus has impacted our communities, societies, countries, and the world. And yet, amidst all this pandemonium, and pandemic, there has rarely been a solid, hardened, solution or tactic put in play.in fact, public officials and governments have failed and disappointed in the management of the pandemic. There has been one hero, and only one, who has stood in the face of this super virus, and battled it tooth and nail from the beginning of our war. And those heroes are the coronavirus helpers. Often dubbed the Coronavirus Frontliners, Coronavirus helpers are the men and women who serve at the very forefront of this virus. They are the Doctors, nurses, and volunteers who are our first line of defense in stopping the spread of this lethal disease. They spend their hours at the hospital in the intensive care unit. They spent the last year’s worth of holidays with patients who are suffering from complications from Covid-19. They were the very first people to see the true ugly face of this virus, while everybody questioned its legitimacy and rendered it the common flu. They preached social distance and social awareness while everyday individuals became fed up with the strict lockdown measures.

Coronavirus helpers are the men and women who risked their lives, and the lives of their families, to help contain, or at the very least manage, the spread of the covid-19 virus. They risked their lives, but also their day-to-day life. They sacrificed and gave up all normalcy in return for around-the-clock shifts at the ICU. It is these stories, the untold stories, of the brave men and women, and their sacrifice, that paved the way for any sort of hope the human race had against covid-19. If not for them, we would not have had a significant arsenal of humanitarian help to combat this virus. If not for them, we would be victims of government bureaucracy, slow decision-making, and flat inadequacy/ineptitude.

Like soldiers at the front line of a battle, we all owe it to stop and say “thank you, coronavirus helpers”. Your local front liner is the world’s superheroes. Thanking them is the least we can do. Following the necessary protocols is the obligation. The more careful we are, the less pressure we add onto them. As for our coronavirus frontliners, thank you once again. You truly are our superheroes.
