The Slap Heard Across the World
Emmanuel Macron was met by a staunch supporter who confronted him with a swift slap across the face. Not exactly the look the Parisian President wanted heading into the G7 summit, and into re-elections.
In case you missed it because you’ve been quarantining for so long that you simply detached from the rest of reality, French President Emmanuel Macron turned into Emmanuel SMACKron after a recent run-in he had with a French Citizen. You can watch the whole incident here.
Damien Tarel, aka the slapper, would later tell the court prosecuting him that the slap was an “act of impulse”. Really? You’re going to play the “I didn’t mean to do it” card. They have you on camera, Damien.
The slap may have been a light tap on the cheek, but in terms of Presidential re-election, it set Macron flying back. Definitely not a good look for the Parisian President as he is gearing up for a second term with elections in less than a year. Also not a good look to join your G7 certified world counterparts with a red handprint on your right cheek.
Be that as it may, the latest incident is just another one of more and more outbursts from constituents towards their leaders. From regular protests to the Capitol Hill riots to slapping Presidents across the face on impulse, it’s safe to say that there is total dismay and disappointment, across the board, from people towards their Presidents.
