World’s Best Art Destinations

One great way to enjoy travel is to seek out art in the different places you visit. Look for museums where you can see paintings and sculpture, churches where you can see religious art, and large installations in the places that you go to.

World’s Best Art Destinations

Although it may be just an added thing to keep in mind when you travel, it is also good to travel with the specific purpose of appreciating art. If an art-specific trip is what you’re up for, here are some destinations we recommend:

Vatican City

The Vatican Museums are among the best museums to visit if you would like to see works by the Renaissance masters. The Sistine Chapel alone is a spectacle, with the majestic ceiling painted by Michelangelo. Some of the other things you shouldn’t miss when you visit the Vatican City are the Spiral Staircase designed by Giuseppe Momo, the Raphael Rooms where you can see frescoes by Raphael and Michelangelo, and the Gregorian Egyptian Museum where you can see ancient Egypt artifacts.

Paris, France

A single trip is not enough to see all the art that Paris has to offer. Viewing everything in the Louvre alone can take over three months with its collection of over 400,000 works! If you only have a few days, make sure to look for Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, the Greek sculpture Venus de Milo by Alexandros of Antioch, Michelangelo’s Dying Slave, and of course, the Louvre Pyramid by Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei. Aside from the Louvre, the rest of Paris has a lot to offer – the Arc de Triomphe, the Grand Palais, the Sainte-Chapelle, and the very popular Eiffel Tower.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

The Dutch are also known for their many impressive artists which include Rembrandt, Vincent van Gogh, Hieronymus Bosch, Johannes Vermeer, and many more. The top place to visit in Amsterdam is the Rijksmuseum where you can see the famous The Night Watch by Rembrandt, along with over 2000 paintings from other Dutch painters. Other museums you may visit are the Stedelijk Museum, the photography museum Foam, the Van Gogh Museum, the EYE Film Institute, and various art galleries and museums you can find in Amsterdam.

New York, New York

The big apple is home to a lot of very popular and impressive museums. Spend your days visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Frick Collection, and numerous other art galleries and exhibitions that you can always find in New York. Or course, don’t forget to visit the Statue of Liberty which is possibly the biggest artwork you’ll find in New York. You may even visit Central Park where you can always find art exhibitions you can visit and street artists selling their works. Don’t forget to go around the city as well and take a look at some public art installations such as the sculpture Spirit of New York City by Japanese artist Yasumitsu Morito, the bronze sculpture Dancing Hippo by Bjørn Skaarup, and the glass sculpture Steam Portraits by Martin Blank, among others.
